I have a prescription for erythromycin gel with benzoyl for acne, how important is it to keep it in the fridge

I've been keeping it at room temperature for the last 3 or 4 days before I realized it said in fine print to put in the refrigerator. Is the medicine still good? I never had to put my erythromycin topical liquid in the fridge.I have a prescription for erythromycin gel with benzoyl for acne, how important is it to keep it in the fridge
It might still be good -- the medicine will solidify into a gel that you won't be able to apply if you don't keep it in the refrigerator. It is very important to keep this form of medication in the refrigerator; otherwise, it destabilizes (and hardens). The combination of erythromycin and benzoyl peroxide is very effective, especially for oily skin with acne, but it does have to be kept in the refrigerator for this combination to remain stable.
