Anybody else been on a million prescriptions for acne? What finally worked?

I have been going to the dermatologist for 2 years, and have had my prescription changed every 2 months, and nothing has worked. If you currently have or have had acne, what has worked best for you?Anybody else been on a million prescriptions for acne? What finally worked?
When I was younger, it was Accutane. I heard that Differin works now days...Anybody else been on a million prescriptions for acne? What finally worked?
Try limiting your dairy consumption.

A 2005 Harvard study found a connection:

';Acne Associated with Dairy Intake鈥?br>

A new Harvard study links dairy products to adolescent acne. A group of 47,000 women from the Nurses鈥?Health Study was asked to provide information about several aspects of their diet during high school as well as any incidence of physician-diagnosed severe teenage acne.

Researchers noted a positive association with total milk and skim milk consumption, along with instant breakfast drinks, sherbet, cottage cheese, and cream cheese.

No association was found with several other foods often thought to affect acne, including soda, french fries, chocolate candy, and pizza. The scientists postulate that hormones and bioactive ingredients found in milk may be responsible.';
eat fruits and vegetables. avoid oily snacks and use an oil free face wash frequently.
You don't said your age or you life style but usually young people have oily skins. When you are under stress your body liberates cortisone which increase your acne. Try to have your skin clean using appropriate products for acne and protect your skin from sun and lights (including artificial light) with a non- comedogenic sun block. I know of an specific product that can help you 1-787-398-3414
Yes, but my home remedy is super easy, and cheap, I assume you have oily skin so at night take one egg white throw away the yolk and rub it on like a facial, leave on for 20 minutes then rinse it off, sweet dreams and take cooler showers, hot showers make your oil glands work harder because the hot water dries your skin out so try it and I hope it works for you!
Ive been there! Im 27 and have had acne since I was a teenager. I have tried everything from Retin-A to Accutane to Benzoclin to ProActiv. The simplest thing that my great grandmother told me to do is the only thing that has ever worked for me. I've been acne free for the 3 months I've been doing it. I dont even wear make-up out all the time which I havent done since I was little! I wash my face, morning and night, with tea tree oil facial soap and follow up with Bragg's Organic Apple Cider Vinegar as a toner. (you can get both in any health food store) It's best to use the toner only at night for the first few times to see how your skin will react. It will sting a bit (but not uncomfortable) and your face will be a bit red but it normally subsides in a bit. If your skin adapts pretty quickly and the redness goes away quickly, use it in the morning after washing, as well. I have gotten so many compliments on my skin, it's ridiculous. The overall texture improved, pores arent so visible, not so oily....just amazing. And I never had 'good skin.' I wish I had tried this years ago because it would have saved me thousands of dollars. Sometimes the doctors and prescriptions arent always the best cure. Hope you try it and it works for you!

  • Can I go to the Emergency Room to get a prescription for acne products?

I know that acne is not life threatening, but I truly need some prescriptions for my skin. I dont have health insurance any longer and dermotologist I used to see costs $200...money I dont really have. I know that if I got to the ER they will send me a bill for services. This way I can at least get the Rx and be on my way to helping my skin.

So, do you think the ER will see me?

Also, the Rx I used that worked were Erythromycin-Benzoyl Perioxide Topical Gel and amoxicillian pills (they truly worked wonders!!). Also, I have used Proactiv and all the other commercial acne products. I dont have good skin so normal wash-face-with-soap-and-water dont work. I have super oily skin with large acne deep in my skin. I get white-heads (so there is a bacterial infection somewhere) and they even are painful.

So...should I got to the ER for the prescriptions????Can I go to the Emergency Room to get a prescription for acne products?
just get a new dermotologestCan I go to the Emergency Room to get a prescription for acne products?
I'm an ER doc. It works like this. The ER MUST screen you for a life threatening condition. We must make sure you ';rash'; is not a dangerous rash like stevens johnsons or meningococcemia. Now...as for the prescription...

It all depends on how I feel that day. It depends on how much I like you. It depends on if you did not just piss me off because you abused the ER system. I do NOT have to write you for a prescription of what you asked for. You will still get billed for the ER visit, because I will have done my job, which is making sure you do not have an emergent condition.

Personally, I definately would not write you for amoxicillin pills. Maybe the topical stuff (and remember, only if i feel like it).
No don't go to ER. Try a general practitioner. They'll just send you away at the ER
no use ER doesnt have meds for acne.

Dont waste the valuable time and resources designed for the emergency cause
It is doubtful that any emergency room will even see you or treat you for acne. The triage nurse, the one that assesses your condition on arrival, will most likely turn you away and refer you to your own physician. You state that the ER will send you a bill for services. An emergency room visit is much more expensive than an ordinary doctor's office visit. I'm not understanding your logic there.

You might try calling your doctor's office, and asking if they'll call in the prescriptions to a pharmacy for you. Also, let the doctor's office know about your ability to pay. You may be able to work out some financial arrangements with the dr's office.
yeah dont use the ER they are there for trauma and life threatining situations. Not only would you waste your time to be seen because its not life threatining when you called up for your turn to be seen they would ask you to leave or make an appointment with the dermotologist there or another private practice. Hell they may even charge you money for wasting their time. It's no joke with the ER trauma folks.

your best bet is to check out Medicaid. They do have free health insurance if you qualify.

PLEASE CHECK OUT THESE WEB SITES INSTEAD OF GOING TO THE ER.
As far as my knowing,it is a question with various answers,it is definitely depending on the your mind ,providing a great resource here http://www.healthinsurance-onlinetips.info/health-insurance-for-free.htm for reference though.

It would depend on the dose. Per month, it would cost about $40.

If that is a little high for you, you can talk to your physician about tetracycline. It is in the same class and is used for acne, but it is cheaper. The cost of 60 capsules is about $15.

I did some research and talked to my doctor to find the most common causes of acne.

鈥?Hormones: The number one cause of acne is the production of sex hormones, known as androgen, that begins at puberty. This is why majority of acne sufferers are adolescents and teens. Hormones are responsible for then acne flare-ups during menstruation and pregnancy.

鈥?When the sebaceous gland is stimulated by androgens, it produces extra sebum. In its journey up the follicle toward the surface, the sebum mixes with common skin bacteria and dead skin cells that have been shed from the lining of the follicle. While this process is normal, the presence of extra sebum in the follicle increases the chances of clogging 鈥?and acne.

鈥?Stress: can also cause the production of hormones, such as cortisol, which can aggravate acne. Stress brings upon different hormone levels. With hormone changes the body prompts the skins oil glands to enlarge, secreting more oil. Which causes white heads, black heads and pimples.

鈥?Oily or heavy make up: Heavy make-up clogs the pores and oily make-ups add more oil, which only adds to the problem if oily skin already exists. Cosmetics, especially certain moisturizers, foundations and pomades contain lanolin, petrolatum, vegetable oils, butyl stearate, lauryl alcohol and oleic acid.

鈥?Certain medications and steroids: Vitamins are good for your body, But an excess of vitamins B1, B6 and B12 can cause acne flare-ups. These vitamins are good for the skin, but avoid overuse.

鈥?Diets: For some people, a diet that is high in refined carbohydrates and sugars can actually aggravate their acne.

鈥?Over abrasive cleansing: Harsh exfoliators can damage skin and spread infections.

鈥?Picking and squeezing: This can actually send the infection deeper into the skin and can cause scarring.

鈥?Environmental irritants: such as high humidity and pollution. High humidity actually causes swelling of skin. Pollution is of course is a big cause for clogging your pores.

鈥?Genes: Family members who are also acne sufferers. Acne is inherited and severe cases known as cystic acne usually come from heredity.

    And..,

What the skin needs is a product that clears pores and kills bacteria, thus preventing hair follicles from clogging and turning into acne. This is what you should be looking for if you want to get rid of those ugly acne.

Before trying any treatment, I suggest you read this informational source that listed the most effective acne treatments available:

P.S. I also know someone who used to suffer from severe acne for 14 YEARS and finally got rid of it completely. She's sharing her story at her site:

Switch your cleanser and moisturizer over to MaryKay. Just decide on your skin type. Use our microdermabrasion to get a deeper clean every few days after the cleanser. See how that works for you. Most people see results they are happy with. Use it faithfully everyday...cleansing and moisturizing morning and evening until you run out and see how it feels. If you need to add our acne treatment to the routine...we have it.
I used to use 'Eryacne' which is prescribed by doctors. I thought it was pretty good.

For moisturiser I use 'Aloe Vera' gel. It's natural, oil free and doesn't feel heavy.

I used to wash my face 2 days out of 3 with Solvol. It's actually to wash off car grease etc. But i thought it was a face wash because of the grains in it. I think it's alot better than those advertised face scrubs.
NOTE鈥 HAVE WRITTEN THIS LONG ANSWER TO RESPOND TO QUESTIONS RELATING TO BECAUSE THEY COME UP SO OFTEN:

    OILY SKIN

    ACNE

    FACIAL LIGHTENING

    DEALING WITH ACNE SCARRING

    DEALING WITH STRETCH MARKS

    IMPROVING SKIN TONE

    PIMPLES

    BLACKHEADS

    EMERGENCY SPOT TREATMENT

    INGROWING HAIRS

    BODY ACNE

鈥HE INFO鈥橲 BASED ON MY OWN EXPERIENCE. I鈥橫 36 NOW SO I鈥橵E HAD TO DEAL WITH THESE ISSUES FOR QUITE A WHILE AND THOUGH MUCH OF THIS ANSWER MAY BE IRRELEVANT, I HOPE THERE'LL BE SOMETHING THAT CAN HELP YOU!

    GOOD LUCK!!!

RECOMMENDED SKIN CARE鈥 use clean and clear cream wash (good for sensitive skin or those that dry to easy) or Neutrogena clear skin make up remover wash. Both contain salicylic acid which prevents breakouts and gradually evens the skin tone out too. This is the most important thing you can do. I鈥檝e tried various 鈥榦il free鈥?鈥檚alicylic acid鈥?moisturisers but the best I鈥檝e found is the clean and clear on鈥 found the Neutrogena one actually seemed to aggravate my skin.

EMERGENCY SPOT TREATMENT!...The toothpaste things works! Put on a blob at night and put a bit of tissue over it so it doesn't make a mess. It cools the area down and reduces the inflammation. I also recommend the clean and clear advantage spot treatment gel.

HORMONAL SPOTS鈥ny female with spots I'd recommend trying dianette or yasmine contraceptive pills because if it's hormonal that can sort everything out within weeks鈥hough it can take a couple of months to get used to the pill.

FACIAL ACNE: AVOID鈥on't use harsh scrubs and peroxide products daily like some people do; that can dry your skin and make produce MORE oil...just exacerbating the problem. Many face packs I鈥檝e tried and those blackhead removal strips too seem to have caused problems.

I鈥檝e also had problems with those 鈥榝acial wipes鈥?made by clean and clear and Neutrogena because they鈥檙e too drying and when the top layer鈥檚 too dry, the oil gets stuck underneath and causes more problems!

Some say chocolate doesn鈥檛 affect it鈥t does for me and I don鈥檛 know how or why that should be but certain foods do seem to affect break out. Coffee is one of those things that seems to aggravate my skin too. So look out for anything you eat that might be making it worse.

HAIR PRODUCTS鈥e careful what products you use in your hair if it's long - certain conditioners have causes me to break out at times. Also be careful of hair gels, hair sprays and serums.

INGROWING HAIRS鈥or men or women鈥f you have oily skin, these are more likely. For men鈥se a facial scrub and avoid moisturisers that don鈥檛 have salicylic acid in them if you use a moisturiser. Some hair conditioners are much better lubricants than shaving cream too 鈥?so you might want to try that, and then was afterwards with a clean and clear was etc. Also I recommend the microdermabrasion kit mentioned later.

For women鈥axing seems to cause the main problem 鈥?we pay most attention to our faces. Waxing seems to be the main culprit as opposed to shaving or hair removal creams鈥o avoid in-growing hairs, make sure to exfoliate. I recommend using those exfoliating gloves 鈥?that way, you can use any kind of shower gel.

NUTRITION鈥 recommend taking a 100% multi vitamin/mineral complex 鈥?those little spots you get around your mouth can be due to a vitamin b deficiency for example. Also I recommend Omega 369 oils every day because they improve blood flow.

OLD WIVES TALE??...It's an 'old wives tale' type remedy - but a spoonful of cider vinegar and honey in hot water 3 times a day is meant to help EVERYTHING. It tastes nice too...kinda like honey and lemon X

HYDRATION鈥?Keep your hydration right by drinking plenty of water, avoiding caffeine and alcohol and too much salt!

DEALING WITH SCARRING鈥here鈥檚 an excellent micro-dermabrasion scrub called 鈥榬e-finish鈥? by L'oreal. You only use it a couple of times a week (and use at night because it makes your face red!). It really works not just with the colouring but also the texture - smoothes it back out. It comes with it's own moisturiser which I don't use but I use the scrub at night a couple of times a week and put bio oil on which it supposed to help clear scarring and even skin tone.

If you get your skin relatively under control, try using '21 days Fade Cream' (which I get from eBay) because it quickly clears up any scarring. It鈥檚 a skin lightening cream and is very effective as long as your skin type agrees with it. Bio oil is a good alternative!

Also, to detract from the colour variations in your skin tone, I recommend using Benefit鈥檚 Posie Tint or Benetint lipstain 鈥?this can be put on your cheeks and lips (which also makes your teeth look whiter as an added bonus). Lipstain is better than lipstick because it doesn鈥檛 smudge and it stays on; you can put lip balm or lip gloss on over it. Also, if you use it (SPARINGLY) on your cheeks, it is just like putting water on there; it doesn鈥檛 aggravate the skin or cause breakouts.

I'm 16 years old and have very little acne. I can get it on my forehead, but I usually don't but if I do it's like one or two. My nose never gets it but it has some blackheads which I still haven't managed to get rid of. My chin rarely gets it and my cheeks are where it always happens.

Right now it's all on my right cheek. My left cheek is all clear and so is the rest of my face. It's not 100% clear like I would like but it's good enough for me not to be self-concious.

I've been on minocycline since January of '06 when I had a lot of acne when I was 14 and I used topicals and then proactiv and then retin-a and duac and some other drugstore products in between.

I need some new pills like tetracycline or doxycycline or something? What do you recommend? My cousin uses Differin and he says it works really well. I want to use Differin .3 because I heard it works great for treating AND preventing!

Suggestions or recommendations on oral antibiotics and Differin (especially .3)?

Also, since I have little acne on my cheeks, will it get really severe before it gets better? We are going Thursday for an appt.

I used to use doxycyclene, and it didn't do a thing. No antibiotics did, neither did any topicals. The only thing that did was AccuTane. The side affects in reality are managable. The only bad part was the chapped lips for about a week, then everything was normal. It took a good 6 months to work, but finally it did. This was a couple years ago I was treated, and as far as I know it hasn't been banned yet.

Accutane is the very best, but the most harsh as well. The side effects can be severe, and there's a lot of controversy about it causing depression in teenagers. I took it in my early 20's and my acne was cleared up for over 10 years! It certainly works well, but I feel it should be reserved for the most severe cases only. Otherwise, I also loved Retin-A cream - it was slow to take effect, but left me with beautiful skin afterwards.Prescriptions for acne that works? ?
you should try acne clarifying complex from shaklee. Their products are the best on the market today, and all natural. You should check out the website at www.shaklee.net/urban. they have great products that are for far less that department store brands and also because of their products being all natural, they are not harmful to the skin. Also comes with 100% money back guarentee. Let me know how it works.
Acutane works well. It's a pain to get, you have to have a doctor recommend it for you and then have him send a letter to the company clarifying it.

I want clear skin!!Best way to get rid of acne without seeing a dermatologist and using prescriptions??
Proactiv solution works good here is the website http://www.proactiv.com/Best way to get rid of acne without seeing a dermatologist and using prescriptions??
I am a customer service representative for a product called Proactiv Solution. I have used this product for years and I absolutely love it! Between you and I I would trade my kids in for it because I don't have to fight with this like I do with them. lol Anyway, it is a simple 3 step product that you do every morning and night. You can call 1-800-950-4695 and ask for a skin consult to best fit you with a kit that will give you the best results. The skin consult is free. Best of all it comes with a 60 day money back guarantee so if you don't like it for some reason you can send it back. The really great thing about Proactiv is it was made by 2 Stanford trained dermatologists to clear up current acne issues and help prevent new break outs. Another cool thing about Proactiv is the stuff is available without a prescription even though they use prescription grade ingredients. Very cool and it doesn't cost all that much. Plus, if you are insured with a Flex pay account they will cover the cost of your Proactiv each year.
Well, I personally use Proactiv, but here are some other ideas...

-don't touch your face during the day to much, the oil on your fingers will go on your face!

-wash ur face twice a day, no more or your skin can get more oily!

-remember: the only way junk food can affect the way your skin looks, is if you rub a hamburger on your face ;) (aka the foods you eat wont change your skin)

-in every grocery store there are little aisles with a shelf of face wash (Clean %26amp; Clear, Neotrogena, etc) I'd recommend trying one, but if it doesn't work, or makes your skin worse, stop using it.

Tip: Personally, I don't have sensitive skin, but if you do, some formulas can make your face worse.

Remember: Skin won't clear up very fast, and when it does, u have to keep it clear.

Myth: No, if you put something on your face to help clean it and it tingles IT DOES NOT MEAN IT'S WORKING. People don't understand that when that happens it's irratating their skin!

I WISH YOU LUCK, AND I HOPE I HELPED! =)
None, I would recommend you to see a dermatologist in any case because he knows best.

I don't know if Proactiv will really help you, because it depends which acne you have and how is it developed.

When I was in pubery I had strong acne and my dermatologist has given my Isotretinoin a medication with Vitamin A. But it has some side effects and after a few months your dermatologist must check your blood levels.

It was a potent medication, because my strong acne went away without any scars

    Back acne prescriptions?

I have had back acne since I was 13 years old and I am now 21. I have tried just about every over the counter acne medicine out there, including proactive. I have tried everything from changing my laundry detergent to changing my hairspray. Nothing has worked... My doctors told me it was just something I was going to have to grow out of. Well its been almost 10 years and I'm completely over these huge pimples on my back. I now have tons of scars from them too.

My question is what prescriptions has anyone tried for back acne that has worked? I'm going to my doctor again after he prescribed me differin gel which did not work. I am looking for a prescription that will get rid of my acne. I am also looking for a prescription that will take away the scars as well. Any suggestions would be very helpful.Back acne prescriptions?
    Dear Friend

Having used Dr Sheffield's Clear Zit Acne Treatment Cream I can definitely tell you that it works within 24 hours.

If you buy it today, by tomorrow morning, the zits will be gone that you simply would not believe it yourself.

This amazing affordable product works like magic.

IF you want that overnight success then this is the product that you are looking for.

This may not work for you, but . . . I had back acne for years with huge, painful cysts. It even hurt when I took a shower. Anyway, I dated a dermatologist who said I needed to shower at night and use a non-comodonic lotion on my back because the ph level was all off. Sure enough, after about a month of using lotion, the bacne started to clear up.

Hope it works . . . don't you cringe when someone slaps you on your back.
If you have soft/sensitive/oily skin(like me) i'm going to try baking soda and water. You mix it together and leave it on your face for like an hour... i haven't it tried it yet though.(:

    ITS EXTREMLY IMPORTANT
People suffering from mild or moderate body acne, I heartily recommend the Clear Pores System. Hard to treat cases are better left to a dermatologist鈥檚 skills, although ClearPores is certainly up to the task.

The best way to treat acne is to cleanse the skin with a solution containing Salicylic Acid and SD Alcohol 40. The ClearPores body and face washes contain these two excellent ingredients, which are accompanied by the well-known Aloe Vera (to soothe the skin and help the healing process), Dandelion Root and Yellow Dock.

    See its official site: http://www.clearpores.com/clicks/clickth鈥?/a>

Also...keep your body skin clean every day and be careful not to trigger acne or rashes by wearing very tight clothing or heavy backpacks. If you feel your clothing, backpack or purse is causing you skin problems, then start thinking about alternatives.

I use to use pro activ and it worked but it only got rid of the acne on my forhead and chin and never got rid of the hard ones that are kinda under the skin on my cheeks. I went to the dermatologist about 2 weeks ago and she gave me 10% Sodium Sulfacetamide 5% Sulfur wash twice a day and a gel to put on before bed called Ziana with 1.2% Clindamycin phosphate and Tretinoin 0.025% and its doing the same thing as pro activ and not helping with any of the acne on my cheeks. Does anyone know what are the best acne products that i should ask my dermatologist to prescribe for me? please help :(Best Acne Prescriptions?

    If you are having cystic/nodular acne (the hard ones) that is not responding to other treatments, then it is time to consider Accutane. However, your dermatologist is javascript:void(0);

Check Spellingprobably going to tell you that two weeks is probably not enough time for these medications to work. (They usually recommend two to three months of consistent treatment on those medications you have listed.) Having said that, it is difficult for *any* of those topical medications to treat cystic/nodular acne. Those medications are usually effective for moderate acne, not severe acne. Ideally, she should have also prescribed you an internal antibiotic, like erythromycin, doxycycline, sumycin, tetracycline, or Bactrim DS for the first two months until the third month when you skin should achieve a clear complexion from the combo forms of treatment. I would recommend that you call back to the doctor's offie and inquiring if there was something that could be added, like some type of oral antibiotic, that would be helpful the first couple of months of break-in therapy.

Take Care and God Bless !Acne prescriptions, your experiances?
Use Nu Skin Clear Action System. It's very effective. It addresses the past (scars, blemishes and uneven skin), present breakouts, and future (pimples and acnes that is about to come out). using 2 to 3 boxes of this will get your skin in good condition then you can switch to the normal face care regimen (cleanse, tone and moisturize) which Nu Skin also provides. During usage, if you're stress which is one cause of having acne, you should avoid it or if it's not possible then you can drink their anti-stress supplement Cortitrol.

for more info, check out their site

    http://www.nuskin.com/corp/product/index.shtml
Try Benzac AC 2.5% and pears soap bar to wash your face. Apply plenty of Benzac at night and massage it gently into your skin. Visit www.acne.org for more info.
You must keep up a skin care routine to keep your skin clean which will clear your acne i can't stress enough how important this is. Heres what you should be doing:

*Cleanse and Tone morning and night

*use an Exfoliater at least once a week

*also drink about 8 glasses of water a day

I would advise against using 'Clean %26amp; Clear' as those products can be very harsh on your skin. If the product your using stings it means your sensitive to it so stop as it is doing you damage. Also dont use soap on your skin as this can make it go dry and flakey (and this is whorst than oil as it causes premature ageing).

I like 'Simple' or 'Vichy' products as these dont contain any:

-Alcohol and Soap (which dries out the skin)

    -Parfum (which is just unnecessary)

    -Oils (which clogs up pores)

Always check on the back of products to see what they contain as many can be doing more harm than good!

Also DO NOT PICK! as this may cause scaring so if you do STOP! And try to keep your hands off your face as all of bacteria on your hands will go all on your face if you touch.

Also you should go to a Beautician at least every third month for a deep clean Facial these really clean and are also a little treat too! The beauticians can give brilliant advise on what products to use and avoid. Also if you repeatedly go back to the same Beautician they can monitor your skins improvement.

And use make-up that is oil-free and dermatoligicaly tested and always clean it off every day.

    My Medication i used:

But if you still see no improvement, try 'Zineryt' its a prescription anti-biotic for your acne. You put it on twice a day (ie Morning and Night) after you have cleansed and toned your skin. You have to do it for at least 6 months to see an improvement and its a bit expensive at 35 euros a bottle but i have been using it now for 6 months and my face has cleared up brilliantly. But you must keep the skincare routine or it won't work.

    Good Luck :D

  • Acne prescriptions from dermotologist?

Hey guys, I'm going to the dermotologist next week and I was just wondering what medications worked the best for those who are suffering from acne. I have been the dermotologist before and used almost every cream, proactive and birth control, nothing worked, so I just figured I'd wait till I outgrew it, but I'm almost 20 years old and it's still here, and actually getting worse. It's esp. bad around my period so I know it's mostly hormones. I don't eat bad, drink lots of water, and don't wear makeup.

Also, my biggest problem is the red marks the pimples leave behind. I never pop them, but after the zit is gone, there is still a red mark there for about a month or two, sometimes even close to six months. Is there anything to help prevent this, or lighten them? Just wondering what I should ask the doctor, and what prescriptions (pills) worked well for you! Thanks.Acne prescriptions from dermotologist?
You might try birth control pills -- most women who have acne that gets worse around their period benefit from birth control pills (regulates hormones).

Depending on the severity of the acne - the doctor may put you on anything from a benzoyl peroxide, to a retinoid, to a oral or topical antibiotic or even accutane. It is going to depend on what you have done in the past and then also trying different things. Just remember, these medications take up to 6 weeks to work so stick with whatever the doctor gives you at least until the follow up appointment.Acne prescriptions from dermotologist?
    pro active
Stop using harmful chemicals on your face like make-up and acne removers; seriously, because you're making the problem worse - both by clogging your pores (with make-up) and by using chemicals to eat your flesh away (proactive, etc.). The other thing you need to do is change you diet completely.

I recommend not going to the dermatologist at all. There's a place in West Palm Beach, FL called Hippocrates Health Institute that teaches people how to restore their health by living an Organic, Raw, Vegan diet. In addition to the diet, they recommend placing juiced wheat-grass pulp directly onto your acne (with tape or whatever) for a few hours and the acne will disappear immediately. That's right; you will get instant results. You probably haven't tried that method yet, because this world is trying to make people rely on the medical industry which is made up of liars and thieves.

The caduceus (alleged symbol for medicine) was originally a Greek symbol of protection for merchants and thieves; who today are called doctors and the pharmaceutical industry.
its called duac. its a prescription acne cream my brother uses. i have mostly clear skin and use it when i get a pimple and it gets better in literally a few hours. it is seriously amazing
The dermatologist probably wont be able to help you much. It sounds like you are doing much everything you can. After he/she fails, your next alternative is plastic laser surgery!
Accutane is a med that some Dermatologists used to prescribe. If your Dr tries to put you one it make sure to ask about all the side effects. You mentioned Birth control, if you and your Dr decide Accutane is right for you, it is back on the birth control. Accutane will wreck havoc with you, but is not compatible with an unborn fetus. Broken record time again, but ask your Dr!
accutane work 100% and I ahve been acne free for 10 years
Honestly, I'm not trying to sound like Jessica Simpson or any of the other cheesy people on the Proactiv commercials but that stuff WORKS! Seriously, order it! :)

What oral prescriptions would be best for comedonal acne (black heads)?

i think most prescriptions you take for acne (antibiotics, accutane) only have an effect on cystic acne. i think the best way to control blackheads is topically

What is the best on the spot treatment for acne, that you can buy w/o a prescription?

My 13 year old brother is getting very large ingrown pimples on his nose, I can tell it embarasses him a lot. Please let me know of any product I can buy, to help him out.

P.s. he already uses proactive, so please suggest something other than that. Thanks!!!!What is the best on the spot treatment for acne, that you can buy w/o a prescription?
Preparation H! Don't tell him that's what it is though! Put it in another container. There is somthing in that stuff that eliminates inflamation and fast! My 16 and 15 yr olds are using it now out of a pill bottle! Thier faces will breakout, but clearup overnight when they use the Preparation H.What is the best on the spot treatment for acne, that you can buy w/o a prescription?
I love Burt's Bees Tea tree oil blemish treatment. It really helps bring down the redness, but it is pretty easy to smell for the people around you, so he won't want to use it except at home.

Is it true that you can become immune to acne prescriptions, which makes them stop working??

Your body can develop a natural tolerance to any drug. If you find that your acne meds aren't working they way they used to then just consult your doctor and have him up the dosage. Is it true that you can become immune to acne prescriptions, which makes them stop working??
I have the same exact problem.

I'm not sure why that happens but I do think that the body does become immune to them. I was reading up a bit on it and what I would do is try something for 8 weeks and if its not helping, move on to the next thing. Is it true that you can become immune to acne prescriptions, which makes them stop working??
you will not become immune. However, your body does build up a tolerance for medicines and other things like smoking and drinking liquor. You may think you are immune b/c you have been taking the same doseage for a long period of time and need a stronger one or a higher level of medicine such as, if you have severe acne, Accutane. My partner takes Accutane and it has helped his acne tremendously, its like night and day.
    i think so...........
Absolutely. Your body gets used to them and all you need to do is switch back and forth every 3-4 months.

Can your family doctor instead of a dermatologist write prescriptions for Accutane or Differen gel for acne?

yes , usually the family doctor does do this . you should occasionally see the specialist for the current / advise on what drug / medicine is best for whatever your condition is . medicines can change newer things might become available . after you know what is best , you can fill it and then you then just bring the tube or bottle with you to the family doctor office because the family doctor needs to see what is the exact size / color / brand / name of medicine that you want .

the family doctor is a good person to help manage the various prescriptions a person may have . i like my internal family doctor to help weigh in on decisions and to make sure that all the things are coordinated / work well for my system. the family doctor is often more available for appointments don't have to wait months to see . god forbid you should have to cancel , you have a huge fee / and wait six more months for another perfect window.

i think specialists might be the right people to make selections / about what medicine is best for whatever the situation , but the family doctor can execute that doctors advise . doctors do coordinate together if any questions , it's helpful and makes me more comfortable. my family doctor is quite helpful in explaining more to educate/ teach me / whyCan your family doctor instead of a dermatologist write prescriptions for Accutane or Differen gel for acne?
Yes. However, if he or she feels that a dermatologist would better be able to evaluate and treat your condition, you may get a referral. Can your family doctor instead of a dermatologist write prescriptions for Accutane or Differen gel for acne?
any licensed physician may write for any approved drug. Question is, will they?
No gel or any cream is really helping with acne. It just fills up the pores and you get more acne. The only treatment with thousands of proven results is Low Level Laser therapy, e.g. acne is treated with derma laser without scars and any side effects - the healing process is starting immediately. You should look for a laser specialist. It will help definitely!

My doctor gave me .1% tazorac (the strongest prescription of it out there) but my acne isnt even bad?!?

he gave me reallyyyyy strong dose of it, meanwhile i LITERALLY have ...3 pimples on my face? i have been reading the reviews for tazorac and they do NOT look good...i have only used it tonight...if i stop using it after tonight, will it give me side effects? My doctor gave me .1% tazorac (the strongest prescription of it out there) but my acne isnt even bad?!?
I took Tazorac for my acne. It's the nuclear bomb of acne medicines; it took my pimples but it also burned the skin around them. However, your doctor gave it to you for a reason, so I would follow through with it unless the side effects are too much for you.My doctor gave me .1% tazorac (the strongest prescription of it out there) but my acne isnt even bad?!?
nah....if its really that strong and the reviews aren't that good i wud stop using it and get the opinion of another doctor.
There is this new popular cream that people have been talking about.

It was even televised on TV.

It prevents future and existing acne, diminishes scars, and lightens skin and blemishes. Fast results too! (It's been claimed that major results can be seen within a week and no later than two weeks)

Before and After photos are available at the given ebay site.

This person is providing 1-3 week trial samples (Only for ONE DOLLAR.. definitely a deal) on ebay at:

Search up ';Cee En's Acne Solution'; or ';best acne solution ever'; on ebay.

First 100 customers can get the item for $1 for one week trial and up to 3 weeks. Or you can purchase 1 month supply for $40 or 6 month supply for $160

It's expensive, but the product DOES work.

My sister and cousin who both have major acne have tried the product and they both give it thumbs up. I have also heard many great feedbacks about this cream.

I don't have a problem with acne, but it seems to have great results on my sister who has moderate to severe acne. Her acne swelling went away overnight.

    I hope this helps. =)

  • Birth Control for Acne. Do I need a prescription?

I'm 23 %26amp; never has a problem with cystic acne until I hit my 20's. Right now I'm absolutely fed up with trying to solve this problem. I've tried EVERYTHING under the sun to fight this mess but it seems my acne just keeps getting worse! Tried proactive, neutrogena, clearasil, clean %26amp; clear, clearlyallthecrapinthestores... herbal remedies, fire %26amp; ice method, lots of water, take out sweets, even tried doing nothing at all!

Birth control is the only thing I haven't tried. I'm unemployed looking for work at the moment, no doctor %26amp; no insurance.

So the questions are... How do I get a lowered price birth control pill for acne (like Ortho Cyclen)? Do I need a prescription to obtain birth control pills for acne?

ANY help is desperately appreciated! Birth Control for Acne. Do I need a prescription?
planned parenthood will usually have a location for people who don't have insurance and a low income. They will prescribe you the birth control for free. Birth Control for Acne. Do I need a prescription?
you do need a prescription, there is no way to get it over the counter. since every womans body is different, they have different levels of hormones, and there is no way you could get the right one if they supplied it without a prescription. what you can do, is look up your local planned parenthood, or something of the like. they will work with you. the price birth control for individuals based on their income, so it won't be something you can't afford.
go to your local health department or planned parenthood and they should be able to give you birth control for a next to nothing price, since you don't have a job.
Yes you need a perscribtion and a pap smear for ANYY kind of birth control, because before you put those chemicals in your body they wanna make sure number 1 your not pregnenat and number 2 that your body is healthy enough to withstand it. I use ortho trycyclin Lo not only for the acne but for you know the birth control too and it helps for both, so that's a plus. But yeah.. you have to have a doc appt and a doc to receive this. I also take Zoloft and it helps with my skin too... which is weird. lol but good luck to ya. and with insurance my meds are about 30$. So that's about what your looking at. Hope this helped!
Goto a free clinic for women. They'll hook it up.
you do have to have a prescription for birth control, so you are going to have to pony up the money to see a doctor..many of them have samples they can give you too, to take until you can afford to purchase the regular packs.

since you have to see a doctor anyway, ask him about Accutane, used to treat cystic acne.
You always need a prescription for birth control. You can get one from planned parenthood though for a lot cheaper. And you can ask for the generic of it.
Go to the local public clinic in your county. Most birth control is either free or for a small fee like $10. Birth control though does need to be prescribed to you. Also, it is probably one of the best things to control acne!
Yes, you need a prescription for birth control. A doctor could also prescribe acne treatments like Differin, etc. The doctor will want to do an exam and possibly blood work before prescribing birth control. You can apply for Medicaid (federal medical assistance) through your county, or contact Planned Parenthood. They may offer or know where you can see a doctor and get low cost birth control.
some birth control pills will clear your skin ONLY if your sexually active AND there are risk like having a deformed baby if you ever want to get pregnet. think about this throughly and stick to one acne cream like cleasil here are the steps you need to take

-wait 3 days without trying to get rid of your acne

-wash your face with the instuctions ONCE in the morning for 2 weeks

    -drink a lot of water

-keep your hair out of your face

-don't touch your face or let anyone touch it unless its nessassary
Yes, there is no way to get a prescription for birth control unless you see a doctor. Can your family help? I had acne that started in my 20s and my mother paid for my birth control because she didn't like my first husband and didn't want me to have children with him. It did clear my acne up but it also caused me to gain weight. I'm not married or on birth control now, but Proactiv really keeps mine under control.
yes you need a scrip and don't u have like a free clinic around close?
Yes - you have to have a prescription. I'd suggest going to your local health department to get it. It will either be very cheap or free.

Ugh I hate Acne!! I've got the prescription pills and creams....and still i have breakouts!!!!?

So around this time last year i went to the dermatologist for my acne and he prescribed me minocycline pill as well as Duac Topical Gel, and Differin cream

It took a while but my face eventually cleared up, with the occasional minor outbreak, but it was a lot better than what it was. Then after a few months, he told me i could quit taking the pills and it's been months since then. However, recently like the last month or two, my face has been a mess AGAIN!!! and i HATE IT!!! I still use the creams exactly like i'm supposed to and everything, but still i'm breaking out!! is it some how possible that my skin got immune to the medication, causing it to no longer work?? i really don't know what to do, any one else had a similar problem??

thank you :)Ugh I hate Acne!! I've got the prescription pills and creams....and still i have breakouts!!!!?
It might not just be your skin having a certain disorder, but your skin might also be dehydrated, you need to drink plenty of water and get vitamin C , oranges, limes, grapefruit, I don麓t know if that works for you.Ugh I hate Acne!! I've got the prescription pills and creams....and still i have breakouts!!!!?
Has your doctor tried you on Accutane (generic Clarivis)? I know several people that have had tremendous success with it. And another good point -the generic is only $4.00 at Wal-Mart.

If you鈥檙e looking for accurate acne information, best to see a dermatologist. Some people believe doctors are predisposed to take the easy way to deal with acne鈥?prescription drugs. But, with many, this simplistic answer may not be the appropriate course of action. Some feel that such prescription drugs just treat the symposium and not the underlying cause. But, a local dermatologist is still your best starting point.

For me personally, I discovered a great informational acne treatment site. Not only is there good information/articles but I got their audio e-book and following it鈥檚 advice can now say that my acne is a thing of the past! Keep in mind, were all different and there are various types of acne, so what works for some may not be totally effective for all.

Bottom line, hang in there, you will get past this! Sincere best wishes and good luck.

Oh, by the way the site that helped me is:

well u have to wash ur face off everynight and day, and if u could buy like acne wash for ur face that would be even better!

u could like find it at like grocery stores and stuff
Acne is a stage in life you must go through, as your hormones are preparing you for womanhood. You can start with your diet - whereby eliminating sugars, and the like that can cause a reaction/conflict in your system. If you already have experienced acne, then you should know by now which foods you need to avoid. However a balanced diet with exercise should solve the problem... and don't pick at your acne, as scars can be created by merely trying to ';pop'; the sores. Try to remember, what's inside is trying to come out. Go see a Dermatologist for the best advice.
wash you face offen and used alcohol it will get the dirt out of the pores that make pimples .

the doctor told me to stay away from cola's and choclate which is the worst on acne.

try some of the over the counter wash for oily skin and see if that helps.

Can i put a moisturizer under or over my topical acne prescriptions? what about make-up?

i have one i use in the morning and one i use at night, can i put moisturizer on under the medicine and still have it work properly? what about in the morning can i put a moisturizer and make-up on over it? Can i put a moisturizer under or over my topical acne prescriptions? what about make-up?
I have two different prescription creams as well. One for morning and one for night.

    Definitely use moisturizer.

As for make-up, I use it right after I put on my morning cream and it still works perfectly.

Although I wouldn't recommend using a heavy liquid-based foundation on top of the medicine, as that clogs your pores and could interfere with the medicine. I use a powder foundation you can purchase at MAC.

The prescriptions I use for my acne work but are drying my skin out a lot! help?

I've been using zoderm redi-pads (8.5) and tazorac gel for my acne. It seems to work but it just drys my skin out to much, I have peeling, redness, itchyness, and it really hurts when I open my mouth wide, and peels. What should I do besides using a different type of acne medication? The prescriptions I use for my acne work but are drying my skin out a lot! help?
Take 10 grams of b5. Im too lazy to type out the coolness of it. Google ';B5 acne'; and you will see how it will clear it up.The prescriptions I use for my acne work but are drying my skin out a lot! help?
first of all, your dermatologist is ';brave'; for prescribing you 2 medications that are known to be very irritating! Zoderm is available in a 4.5% pad which has the same efficacy (works the same at reducing pimples) but is less drying. you could use an over the counter stridex 2.5 % benzoyl peroxide pad and accomplish the same thing without the dryness.

tazorac gel is very difficult to tolerate also. it is available in a 0.05% cream that might be a better choice for you. i would use the tazorac 2-3 times a week (use only a PEA size to entire face.) if it is difficult to measure a pea size for your face, take a cotton ball or pad and wet it, then squeeze out the water. apply the pea size of tazorac to the cotton and spread over entire face, avoiding eyes and corners of nose/mouth.

buy ';Theraplex Lotion'; at the drug store (non-prescription) and rub this on your entire face if you are still dry. your pharmacist can order this for you if you don't see it on the shelf. Theraplex is water based and will not cause pimples.

    good luck!
cut back on usage a bit, and add an oil free moisturizer (so it wont clog pores)
Try using Sorbelene cream, it is the lightest and most absorbant skin cream out there, it's also not very expensive, you could also try vitamin e cream or ointment, they are excellent for ridding you of scars or at least they will fade, its also non greasy and easily absorbed, hope this helps, Goodluck!!!
don't use it every day try about 3 times a week
go to the Dr and have him check it out =sounds like you are having an allergic reaction to the stuff that you are trying to heal yourself with
I know that a lot of medications recommend you use it less often when things like this occurs. Like, every other day instead of every day.

    Or maybe try moisturizer?

  • Are there any prescription level drugs to get rid of old dark acne spots on my face? ?

You can try microdermabrasion or a chemical peel to remove your scars. Treatment starts at about $200 and these procedures can be done at a spa or dermatologist's office.

What prescriptions are best for Acne?

I use differin right now and it works okay. Any suggestions? What prescriptions are best for Acne?
There are a lot of good treatments out there. My friend tried an all natural medicine and has been having good luck with it. Its hard to sort through all of the prescription medications. Some drs put people on heavy duty antibiotic treatments, but I worry about developing an immunity to antibiotics. I was reading this and it sounded pretty safe

    http://womans-health.net/acne/index.php

I think I would feel better about something that is natural. I hate taking a lot of prescriptions. I hope this helps a little. What prescriptions are best for Acne?
    accutane is the best treatment.
i had severe acne on my chest and shoulders...yeah its pretty gross! but i totally ignored it for a really long time till they became all infected then i went to the skin doctor and he prescibed me to acutaine...i was on it for 5 months and its THE BEST treatment ever! most fo the bad acne turned ito scars and hes gonna treat them

so if your acne is super bad go to a skin doctor ask em bout acutaine
    ';acutaine...i was on it for 5 months and its THE BEST treatment ever';

actually it isnt the best well for girls theres alot more issues with being able to get pregnant and birth defects. but acutane was actually proven that it can change people and there moods.( happy person turns into mad person kinda deal)

goto a dermatoligist and talk to them and explain how your skin is where you get it ect and theyw ill recommend something

in my oppinion i was on acutane and i would try to avoid it as much as possible, try different treatments first and if they dont work, and they still recommend acutane then go for it

Whats a good prescription medicine for acne?

I am a 16 year old with acne. I know everyone gets it but mine is worse than most people. I have body acne and more recently more facial acne. Its kinda bad and I really really want to get rid of it. So I am going to see a dermatologist soon. Do you guys have any recommened medication I should use? And the stuff that I want should perferabably be a cream and no weird side affects. Like getting sterile or having liver problems. That would just suck lol thanks. Whats a good prescription medicine for acne?
You're already on the right track! God bless you!Whats a good prescription medicine for acne?
You already answered you own question. Your going to see a doctor. The first thing is an anti-biotic, a good one, then a good body wash for the oils and grime that build up in the pours, and a good regime for the same thing, it takes a good regime and stick with it along with an attitude to keep it up.

Most teen agers today fall to the way side after awhile and forget it. The body during these stages require all I said and some more to keep it free of acne. It ends after a period.
Washing your face for 30 minutes a day is wrong and can zap you skin of healthy moisture and then your skin rebounds and produces an excess of unhealthy oils. Never scrub your face as this can irritate you acne and make it flare up even more. The only thing that has worked for my acne has been using a non-comedogemic (does not clog pores) face wash, preferably neutragena fresh foaming cleanser. It doesn't clog your pores and has no oil or any irritating ingredients. I steer away from anything that has alcohol in it because I find that alcohol makes me break out almost immediately as though I react to it. Nothing the dermatologist has prescribed for me topically or orally has made much difference. I changed my diet to less fattening and more healthy foods and now I am almost all better. When you wash your face (once or twice a day) use the soap in your hands- do not use a washcloth. dry your face with soft paper towels as these have less bacteria and fabric softener then your regular old towel.
Inorder to get a prescription medicine, you must see a doctor first.

But I won't end this message without leaving some advise:

maintain proper hygiene esp. on the face

    avoid fatty/oily foods

    avoid stresses

    and enjoy being a teenager

Question about Accutane prescription for mild acne?

I have mild/moderate acne and nothing I have done over the past 5 years has cleared it up completely. I have tried tons of over-the-counter benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid stuff and that hasn't worked. I have also tried birth control, Ziana (clindamycin), tetracycline, and minocycline. The minocycline cleared it up pretty well, but there is still quite a bit left, and there's the issue with having to stop taking antibiotics after some time and it coming back even stronger. I want to ask my derm to put me on a VERY low dose of accutane because I am serious about wanting to get rid of my acne permanently. I have done all of the research and know about the risks and side-affects and I am still willing to try it. My question is: what are the odds that my derm will actually prescribe me accutane if I ask for it? Is it really my choice to take it or will she not let me take it if SHE doesn't think I need it? I'm afraid to ask and then get turned down because I want this drug SO badly! Thanks in advance for your help, and please don't chastise me for wanting to take accutane. I know it's a powerful drug and I'm willing to accept the side-affects. :)Question about Accutane prescription for mild acne?
Can I assume you are female? If so, you have to make DARN sure you don't get pregnant.

Other than that, I feel for you. I was on just about every other medication and altered my diet. Nothing worked. Until Accutane.

Was it worth the sensitivity to sunlight and frequent blood tests and possible other side effects? You betcha. People who haven't experienced the kind of acne I had don't have a clue what it's like emotionally.

It's tough, but look at it objectively. Is your acne really that bad? Just make sure you're not getting to rid yourself of the occasional pimple. My skin was downright hideous, objectively or otherwise. Accutane cleared it up and boosted my self-esteem immensely.

Good luck!Question about Accutane prescription for mild acne?
If it's something you're interested in taking, go ahead and ask. The worst that could happen is that she says no.
    DON'T use Accutane.

You really don't have to cope with the HORRIBLE side effects...

What the skin needs is a product that clears pores and kills bacteria, thus preventing hair follicles from clogging and turning into acne. This is what you should be looking for if you want to get rid of those ugly acne.

I use doctors prescription medicine for acne/blackheads, and yet my face is not clear and smooth? help?

hi im 15. i have pimples/blackheads. i use doctors prescribed medication called tazorac at night, Duac Topical Gel in the morning and i use cetaphil (a skin cleanser prefered by my dermatoligist) to clean my face. Ive been using these products since may and now its december. I do have to admit its cleared up my face alot, but there are still countless numbers of blackheads and my face just doesnt look like clear healthy skin when i look in the car mirror. i also rarely ever eat chocolate/peanuts too (they enhance pimple production)

    -What should i do?

-Any at home remmedies i can do to make my face clearer?I use doctors prescription medicine for acne/blackheads, and yet my face is not clear and smooth? help?
Skin problems are the pits. I truly sympathize with you! I had zits when I was your age and my mom took me to a dermatologist, too. Didn't do a heck of a lot of good, either.

I did learn some interesting stuff, though. Acne usually starts on the forehead, then moves down. You probably noticed a few small bumps when you were younger. As the ailment progressed, you may have noticed that your cheeks were affected and may now be experiencing them below your jawline and on your back.

Some people disagree whether or not chocolate and peanuts affect acne, but many doctors do agree that hormones may play a huge factor. Here's a good article about what causes acne:

    http://www.acne.com/cause_effects/causes鈥?/a>

It looks like this website is maybe sponsored by Proactiv, so if they suggest using that, take it with a grain of salt.

Since you have blackheads, too, it might be a good idea to use something to open up and clean the pores. Here's what worked for me and it's cheap.

Take a large washcloth with warm water and leave it on your face until it starts cooling. Next, exfolliate. To do this, use a buff pad, natural sea sponge or small luffah pad to wash your face, using a mild soap. Rinse with cool water. Once a week, use a gentle scrub on your face, but not one that contains salt, like a salt scrub. You can make your own scrub with a couple of tablespoons of raw oatmeal mixed with liquid soap for an extremely mild scrub or mix a couple of tablespoons of sugar mixed with a few squirts of liquid soap for a heavier duty one. You can also buy scrubs in the grocery store that work really well.

Even though these are called scrubs - don't scrub! Treat your face gently. This should help clean out the blackheads. Before you try this, though, speak with your dermatologist!!!!!! I would hate for my suggestion to be something that would be bad for your skin and this has the potential to maybe irritate your skin.

Just hang in there. I know how you feel. And remember that, as soon as you are finished growing and your hormones settle down your face will clear up. Don't be afraid to tell your dermatologist if you are unhappy with a lack of progress. I tried all kinds of different things before they found one that really worked for me.

Oh, I also found that being out in the sun helped my skin clear up. It might be helpful if you keep track of when your face breaks out the most.

    Good luck!

Did your prescription for your acne work for you?

I went to my dermatologist and they prescribed 5% benziq peroxide (spelled wrong) wash, and differin gel. They also gave me pills to take in the morning and after dinner (I have to eat before taking the pill) Anyways, I've been using these for a month now, and i feel like it is getting worse. I never had acne on my neck and now I do. What am I doing wrong? Should i call my dermatologist and ask for a stronger pill or wait another month?

Also, I heard that some prescriptions make your face become worse at first, then it all clears up. I don't know if that is true in my situation because the dermatologist never said it would or wouldn't do that. If it is doing that, how long more would it take to clear my acne?Did your prescription for your acne work for you?
I myself am on Differin. My doctor told me it would get worse for 2-3 weeks before getting better, and its true, and I am on my way to getting pretty skin. However, because it has been a month and you have so many treatments it is hard to say what might be causing this reaction. I would make an appointment with your doctor so he can start adjusting your doses.

  • What are some good acne products? OTC and prescription please.?

There are many products out there, but few have gone through extensive research. Most products contain sodium benzoil which does do what it's supposed to...except it happens to be larger than a human pore. That's to explain why most products work for a while and then stop the job... they can only clean the surface. You would need a product that contains sodium chloride (yes, salt.) By using salt, the acne product can be oxygenated to kill the bacteria and since it's over 1,000 times smaller than sodium benzoil, it gets down in there. The only one that I've come by with sodium chloride that does what it says and has what it says is Clear Now. It's not the easiest to get ahold of, but from extensive research and various studies, it's the best. If you tend to get breakouts just from time to time, you should look for a spot treatment that contains salicylic acid. It sounds scary, but it's one of those natural acids like in fruit. You don't have to get a prescription. I'm sorry for the long winded answer, but I'd like you to know the reason. What are some good acne products? OTC and prescription please.?
Grannie swears by pine tar soap for getting rid of pimples. My cousins had acne real bad and they used it and it went away. They were saying that it smells really bad and that they wouldn't use it but Auntie made them and it took about 2 weeks and all their zits went away! They were bad zits too!

    Prescription creams for acne?

has anyone ever use clindamycin phosphate gel 1% for acne. my dermatologist prescripted me this and i was just wondering if anyone has used it before and what you think of itPrescription creams for acne?
hmm...i havent heard of that one but next time you go and if that medicine you have already doesnt work for you, ask your dermatologist for Duac Topical Gel because it really works for me. email me if u have any questions about it. My email should be on my profile. Hope I helped!

    ~SmS~Prescription creams for acne?
I've used it, but not the gel. Mine was the liquid kind. It honestly does pretty good, it doesn't leave your skin white in places like if they've ever had you use benzoyl peroxide (ugh.). But what worked the absolute best was the Differin. Wonderful, wonderful stuff.

Oh, and let me tell you, zinc naturally helps clear up acne. If you are not taking vitamins with zinc in them, may I suggest that you start. I had moderate acne as a teenager and somehow found out (after all my acne med trial and errors) that zinc was good for acne. I tried it, and to this day, it works. I just eat a vitamin every day, and my skin remains clear, without me having to resort to prescription meds anymore. It's way less costly, I'll tell ya that. Works like a charm.
i suggest you get proactive.i used it and its the best it didnt take long to eliminate acne.
Well i used to be on on clindamycin and when i first started using it it worked after about a month, but then i quit using it for about two weeks b/c all my acne went away. But once i quit using it, all my acne came back twice as worse. So yes it worked at 1st for me, but the hard thing is you cant quit using it or it will come back!
I have never used it befor but my cousin uses proactive and it works reely good.

I struggled with acne for years and I finally found the solution that works for me. We have been fooled, tricked, deceived, and just plain lied to. It's time that someone put a stop to it, and everyone learn the truth!

Those of us who suffer from acne have usually been given 2 choices and neither of them work:

    1. Over the counter remedies such as cleansers, creams, ointments, etc. These things have been proven over and over again not to work. Why? It does not address the root cause of the problem.

    2. Go see a doctor and or dermatologist. They will generally prescribe prescription drugs which include topicals and or antibiotics. This, too, has been proven over and over again not to work. Why? It does not address the root cause of the problem.

On the pill meaning birthcontrol? Birthcontrol gave me more pimples.. Their good for your hair, skin, nails and its just good to take period.. Just use directly.. and take them until your pills is all gone... Another one works is prenatal vitamins... My acne scars has gone away from using this too!Dermotologist appt for acne... What prescriptions work best?
    Hi,

My granddaughter was having a problem with acne. I took her to the dermatoligist and her told a couple thing.

    1. Stop scrubbing your face, and don't use a wash cloth. It tends to spread the bacteria around and spread them.

    2. Get a acne medication with Benzoyl Peroxide 5%-10% in it.

Her face has been great, unless she runs out of the medicine. Her friends use all kinds of expensive prescriptions and they don't work 1/2 good as hers. I asked her one day if she ever told her friends what she uses. She said ';NO'; if they want to spend their money on stuff that doesn't work let them... :)

Anyway she buys the Rite Aide brand. Please note it will take a couple days but the improvement is almost miraculous
0.5% salicylic acid cleanser and 5% benzoyl peroxide medication works great for me but you must make sure to use a moisturizer with a minimal sunscreen protection of 15 to prevent dryness and sun sensitivity.
I dont suffer from acne, but I know a few people who are using proactive, and their skin is soooooo clear. The only problem is that if you stop using it your acne will come back.
retin-A micro is great. It helps unclog pores and reduces oil. You have to use it everyday for long term benifits. It sloughes off dead skin and build up that clogs pores and prevents acne in the future. It doesnt necessarily help break outs now( not a quick fix) but a long term preventative one. Any Benzoyl peroxide is great for break outs now. Its helps with redness and inflammation. Topical antibiotics help with redness and current acne to reduce more acne from occurring. Also, it hinders the spread of bacteria ( which causes acne!!) Some great prescription topicals that have Benzoyl and antibiotics combined are Duac or Benza-clin( i have used them!!! ) also ( if your acne is BAD enough) oral antibiotics ( like cephalexin or erythromycin or minocyclin) might help with future break outs as a preventative treatment. So ask your Dr. about these meds and see what he/she thinks about the severity of yor acne. on very very very rare occassions dr. prescribe Accutane.... but ist risky and I think they just passed new laws that its harder to get ( also, you should not be using it if you are pregnant or of child bearing age and not on 2 forms of birth control)

    hope this helps!!
hes probably gunna give you something with benzoyl peroxide, i told my derm im allergic to it so he gave me clidymycin(sp?) and tretenoin(sp?) .. together they work good

i once used proactiv...oh my God! it RUINED my face..it actually caused deep skin infection instead of clearing up my skin...plus, it's so expensive and it's talked about as if it's some breakthrough when it actually isn't. it's based on benzol peroxide and is sold for so much money when benzol peroxide is a cheap medicine...

i would suggest benzol peroxide and stymicen...have u tried any tetracyclines? retin A? i know someone who used retin A and tetracytlines and her skin cleared up..but u gotta watch out from the sun!

the pill usually helps the skin but who knows what the real reason for your acne is...

why don't u just go to a Dr?
I agree with trish. Don't scrub your face.. For sure not with bar soaps and stuff like that. You can use the face cleaners if you want. Alot has to do with if your face is oily or dry. If it is dry you may use lotions during the day. If it oily no lotions for you.

I personaly use a wash rag to wash water over my face to clean it. I Don't use soap on my face at all. My husband has pimples but I can't get him to listen to me. But his is oily and mine is dry.

If you think you need to use soap try to find a very mild soap for your face or maybe even a baby soap.

You may want to go with a face wash instead of the cleaners, also.

    Good Luck
You have to attack acne where it starts, with your diet. For me, diet was the cause and solution. Topical medications fight the symptoms. Start by eliminating trans fats and eating more fruits and vegetables. Once you start cleaning up the inside of your body, by eating properly, the outside of your body (your skin) will be get cleaned up too. I started a website to document my problem and solution.

    http://www.fredstown.com/acne.html

You might find it helpful to read my story. Just remember to eat an all natural/organic diet with lots of fruits and vegetables. Stay away from processed foods. Use mild, all natural cleansers and don't pick at your face. Get lots of sleep and enough water for your body weight. Remember, clean body = clean skin. While you're waiting for your skin to clear, remind yourself that acne is a challenge that you will overcome soon. Once you're rid of it, tell all your friends how you did it. That's what I'm doing. God Bless.
hmmm. i don't really have bad acne, but whenever i break out, i just use some olay age defying cleanser. it sounds weird but it works pretty well for moderate acne.
If you鈥檙e looking for accurate acne information, best to see a dermatologist. Some people believe doctors are predisposed to take the easy way to deal with acne鈥?prescription drugs. But, with many, this simplistic answer may not be the appropriate course of action. Some feel that such prescription drugs just treat the symptoms and not the underlying cause.

Yes stay away from accutane, apart from liver damage it is also linked to mental illness.

Your doctor can prescribe this pill called Diane/Dianette that works at the hormonal level. it basically blocks out the testosterone which is one of the leading causes of acne.

For all ladies reading --- It does have contraceptive effects too - it is a form of ';the pill';. But it must be stressed that it is important that you must NOT get pregnant whilst taking it owing the the male hormone blocking effects on a male foetus.Prescription drugs for acne??? help me!?

Description : The Brand Name of Adapalene 0.1% 10g [gel-caps] is Differin 0.1% 10g [gel-caps]. Adapalene is a chemically stable, retinoid-like compound. Biochemical and pharmacological profile studies have demonstrated that adapalene is a modulator of cellular differentiation, keratinization, and inflammatory processes all of which represent important features in the pathology of acne vulgaris. Mechanistically, adapalene binds to specific retinoic acid nuclear receptors but does not bind to the cytosolic receptor protein. Although the exact mode of action of adapalene is unknown, it is suggested that topical adapalene may normalize the differentiation of follicular epithelial cells resulting in decreased microcomedone formation.

I have an acne treatment that has won me the best answer over thirty times. Usually, the person who voted it the best answer was amazed at how well it worked, even those who had severe cases of acne. I'll copy and paste it below.

Use a hot compress on it (a washcloth, sponge, or anything that will allow you to apply moist heat to the area), and then use cool water to close the pores. Do the process over and over again, about five or six times. Use soap to wash the area, rinse it with warm water, blot off the excess water with a clean towel, and then treat it with an alcohol soaked cotton ball. It should be gone within five to six hours.

Here are some of the previous comments I cut and pasted from those who voted it as the best answer, (Copied and pasted as written. Capital letters seen are as originally answered)

    Order some of this: http://www.inhousepharmacy.com/skin-care鈥?/a>

Put just a little on a very small area of your face. The next day or so your face will be very red where you put the cream. Let that heal up. After that, do it again. Before long, your body will adjust to the medicine and you will be able to use it anywhere. It supposedly works very good for acne and is safe.

I use it for wrinkles and brown spots.
don't use acutane (sp) my doc said it was good, but the side affects were bad...liver damage. No thanks
